Turkey Lifts Restrictions on Belarussian Glass

Date: 22 July 2003

Turkey has lifted restrictions on supplies of Belarussian glass, according to Andrei Savinykh, the Belarussian Interior Ministry's press secretary.

Savinykh made the announcement yesterday at a briefing in Minsk.

According to Savinykh, the decision was taken on the basis of a report by the committee on protectionist measures and imports to Turkey. Belarus has now been removed from a list of countries facing protectionist measures with regard to glass imports.

Savinykh said that an investigation into glass produced in Belarus, Iran, Russia and Ukraine was begun on September 24, 2002 at the request of Turkish glass manufacturer Trakya Cam. According to Turkish officials, Belarus exports USD 400 thousand worth of glass each year to Turkey.
