Tri-State partners on large solar plant

Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association said Tuesday it will partner on building one of the largest solar power plants in the world.

Tri-State, a rural electricity cooperative, is based in Westminster.Environmentalists has criticized the company for relying too much on coal-fired power plants.But Tuesday, the company said it will help build the “Cimarron | Solar Project,” a 500,000-panel solar photovoltaic power plant in northeastern New Mexico.The plant will be on 250 acres between Cimarron and Springer, in the service territory of Springer Electric Cooperative, a member of Tri-State’s association.
