The School of Architecture at Southern Polytechnic State University (SPSU) announced on September 22, 2009 that it will showcase its innovative Heliodon apparatus in the new Innovations Pavilion at GlassBuild America®: The Glass, Window & Door Expo.

The Expo, the largest gathering of glass, window and door professionals in North America, will be held Sept. 30-Oct. 2 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta.

The Heliodon presented is a technologically advanced apparatus used to understand and design daylighting, passive solar, and shading for buildings and communities. It is a major tool for addressing energy conservation and achieving LEED credits. The equipment uniquely qualifies to exhibit in the Innovations Pavilion based on all five of the defined criteria: new technology, design innovation, green products, solar energy and energy conservation.*

The equipment was invented by Professor Norbert Lechner, author of a leading book entitled Heating, Cooling, Lighting: Sustainable Design Methods for Architects. It is used widely by professionals, architectural schools, and it has been translated into four foreign languages. Professor Lechner will attend GlassBuild America to man the SPSU booth on Thursday, October 1 with formal 30 minute presentations at 11AM, 1PM & 3PM. The Heliodon will be demonstrated each day of the show by members of the SPSU Solar Responsive Design Team headed by Professor Robert Tango.

“We are extremely pleased to be showcasing the Heliodon to all the attendees of GlassBuild America,” said Phil James, NGA’s president and CEO. “We’re equally pleased that Professor Lechner will be joining us on Thursday along with many architectural students from SPSU and Georgia Tech who are planning to attend our seminars and tour the show floor throughout the week.”
