Start the new year with some art. There's plenty to see, including ceramic pieces, Italian glass and fine photography.Check out "Murano: Glass from the Olnick Spanu Collection" at the Detroit Institute of Arts through Feb. 27.

It offers some of the finest examples of art glass from Murano, a small group of islands off the coast of Venice that is home to some of the world's greatest glass masters.

A supporting exhibition showing the Murano influence on U.S. studio art glass can be seen at Center Galleries at the College for Creative Studies, 301 Frederick Douglass in Detroit. The exhibition is curated by CCS faculty member Herb Babcock. The show opens with a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Jan. 21 and runs through March 5. 313-664-7800.
