Advice on how to protect ventilation ductwork against fire risk and specifying for the latest regulations is given in a new CPD from the technical division of UK insulation giant Saint-Gobain Isover.

It was premiered with the regional director and three members of the engineering team at Birmingham-based building services consulting engineers Cudd Bentley Consulting who found it “very informative” and the CPD is now being rolled out nationwide.

“Fire protection ventilation ductwork” is a hour-long Construction CPD certified presentation that details the cost to industry and society of fires and the regulations and enforcements that are currently in place to maximise fire safety. It details the options and systems available for preventing fire from breaking through a compartment partition via ductwork and the testing procedures in place. A check list to ensure solutions meet the correct criteria is given at the end.

The CPD at Cudd Bentley Consulting was followed by a presentation on Isover glass mineral wool solutions for ventilation ductwork including Climaver® Plus R, a revolutionary ductwork system that replaces the traditional sheet metal and insulation approach with rigid insulation boards but still meets all the thermal, fire and acoustic regulations.

* More and more specifiers and users are insisting on the use of insulation materials that not only deliver technical performance but also come with exceptional green credentials. Isover insulation boasts zero ODP (Ozone Depletion Potential) and zero GWP (Global Warming Potential).

Manufactured from a combination of silica sand, the earth’s most abundantly naturally-occurring mineral, and recycled glass, up to 80% of the raw material used in the production process is recycled post-consumer glass, from building regeneration projects for example, or flat glass manufacture that would otherwise go to landfill, making Isover one of the most environmentally sustainable insulation products on the market today.
