Insulation giant Saint-Gobain Isover is celebrating a 99% customer service record set over two months running by its haulier TM Logistics.

Employing over 300 people in 16 on-site operations and warehouses across the UK, and operating a fleet of over 200 vehicles and 300 trailers, TM Logistics was ideally placed to move Isover from traditional haulage to sophisticated logistics management services two years ago.

Now the hauliers, who make 1,000 deliveries a month of insulation rolls and batts from Isover’s factory in Runcorn, Cheshire, to distributors and builders’ merchants throughout the UK, have notched up a 99% record over two consecutive months. This is measured against Isover’s customer service index that records any complaints relating to late deliveries, damaged goods and so on.

The tie-in with TM Logistics helped Isover to set the industry standard in packaging and supply – the manufacturer was the first UK mineral wool insulation company to offer fully palletised deliveries to the construction industry.

Improved packing technology now enables almost 500 palletised rolls on a 45-foot trailer as compared to the previous 330, and 400 batts instead of 200. As well as offering merchants and builders cost efficiencies in storage and delivery, there is an environmental benefit through reduction in greenhouse gas, emissions, fuel, and wear and tear on local roads.

Isover’s head of supply chain, Geoff Hellings, said: “We ask all of our suppliers to aim for 100% but on the haulage side there are always issues outside of their control such as motorway accidents and so on.

“So to achieve 99% is a tremendous result and to do it two months running is absolutely fantastic – a great way to celebrate their second year working as our logistics supplier.”
