Prof. Udo Ungeheuer new President Prof. Dr.-Ing. Udo Ungeheuer, Chairman of the Board of SCHOTT AG, is the new President of glasstec 2012.

He succeeds Martin Gregor Gutmann, the Federal Guild Master of the Glazier Trades. In line with the biannual cycle of glasstec presidency alternates between the Federal Association of the Glass Industry (BV Glas e.V.), which is also chaired by Ungeheuer as a President, and the Federal Association of Glazier Trades (BIV). Both organisations serve as conceptual sponsors for glasstec alongside the Association of German Machine and Plant Builders (VDMA e.V.).

As Board Chairman of SCHOTT AG Professor Ungeheuer is at the helm of a leading international technology group serving such principal markets as household appliances, solar systems, pharmaceuticals, electronics, optics, transportation and architecture. Over its 125-year history this company has time and again produced milestones for progress in the glass industry. Professor Ungeheuer started his professional career as the General Manager and Chief Engineer of the machine tool laboratory of the RWTH University in Aachen. In the mid-80s he moved to automotive producer BMW before joining group management of SCHOTT AG in 1994. Just one year later Professor Ungeheuer was appointed to the board whose chairman he has been since 2004. In 2006 the mechanical engineer who holds a PhD was appointed Honorary Professor by the University of Applied Sciences in Mainz. In addition to his function in the SCHOTT group and as a president of BV Glas he is also a member of numerous advisory boards in the finance and construction sectors. Furthermore, he is committed to the Rhineland Palatinate/Saarland board of trustees of the Donors’ Association for the Promotion of the Sciences and Humanities.

“glasstec is the world’s most important trade fair for the glass sector and a key generator of impulses in the industry. As President I am therefore delighted to be involved in the successful planning and implementation of the 2012 event,” says Professor Ungeheuer.

glasstec is the only international trade fair to cover the entire value chain for glass with all of its facets. Furthermore, it also is accompanied by a unique side programme of special shows and congresses. This is why the leading international trade fair for the glass sector is a must-go event for machinery makers, the glass industry and the glazier trades as well as architects, façade planners and construction engineers every two years. Since 2010 it has been complemented by solarpeq – International Trade Fair for Solar Production Equipment – catering to the field of manufacturing technology for crystalline and thin-film photovoltaics. glasstec/solarpeq 2012 will be held at the Düsseldorf Exhibition Centre from 23 to 26 October 2012. For information related to the two trade fairs go to www.glasstec.de and www.solarpeq.de.
