Eclipse Releases New Flat Flame Throughport Burner

Date: 21 February 2014

Eclipse, Inc., a worldwide leader in combustion solutions for the glass industry, has released the WGD version 2 throughport burner.  The WGD is a water-cooled, natural gas burner, designed to be inserted through the port neck of a regenerative glass furnace.

The burner produces a flat, fan-shaped luminous flame with excellent flame coverage over the glass. The new nozzle design incorporates flow straightening vanes to improve gas flow characteristics.

This significantly improves the nozzle life and allows an increase in the maximum capacity to 1200 Nm3/hr (45,650 SCFH). To provide precise flame control, the top burner nozzles are available with hole angles of 0º, 5º, 10º, and 15º, and the bottom burner nozzles are available with hole angles of 5º, 10º, 15º, and 20º. Additional nozzle sizes and geometries are available as engineered specials. The new nozzles can be retrofitted into existing burners. In addition, the thickness of the water jacket wall in the burner body has been reduced to provide better heat transfer from the cooling water to improve the life of the water jacket, as well as provide better cooling to the nozzles. WGD burners are available in water jacket lengths from 1400 mm (55 inches) to 2000 mm (78.7 inches) in increments of 100 mm (3.9 inches).
