Louvers-within-glass from Unicel Architectural help ensure healing environment for tiniest patientsMONTREAL, Canada – November 20, 2012 – Unicel Architectural, the award-winning manufacturer of vision and daylight control solutions, today announced the installation of its Vision Control® insulating glass units (IGUs) with integrated cord-free louvers at Baltimore’s Mercy Medical Center Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

The new NICU in the Bunting Center features the latest in healthcare technologies and special amenities for patients and families.

Architects AECOM of Arlington, VA, (formerly Ellerbe Becket) wanted to ensure that the NICU reflected both progressive healthcare design elements and special considerations for patient privacy throughout the facility.

“Effective healthcare design considers all aspects of a healing environment,” said Jean-François Couturier, CEO of Unicel Architectural. “The smallest of patients particularly need quiet, private spaces to be able to develop and improve under the watchful eye of NICU staff. As part of the overall design approach, Unicel’s Vision Control® integrated cord-free louvers were selected for both interior windows and sliding doors to ensure flexible privacy options along with sound attenuating attributes. The glass-encased louvers can additionally be adjusted to block or filter external light sources from entering the patient’s room when darkening is necessary.
