Uzbekistan's Avtooina will begin exporting auto glass to Russia next year, a source at Uzavtoprom, the association of automobile enterprises that includes Avtooina, told Interfax.

The company will deliver about 40,000 auto glass sets to Avtovaz.

Avtooina will produce about 120,000 auto glass sets next year and will sell 60,000 to UzDaewooAuto and 20,000 to retail enterprises in Uzbekistan.

The 21.2 million-euro auto glass plant was opened in the first quarter of this year and has capacity to produce 200,000 sets a year.

Italy's Techint SpA built the technological portion of the plant, which will produce 26 kinds of tempered glass.

Techint SpA completed the modernization of structural glass production at AO Kvartz last year that cost 15. 8 million euros under a program to localize the automobile industry. About 15% of the structural glass Kvartz produces will be used to produce auto glass.

The project was financed with loans provided by Italian banks and by the Uzbek companies.

Most of the glass used for UzDaewooAuto cars was previously imported from India and South Korea.

The Uzbek glass will be less expensive, which will help lower the cost of UzDaewooAuto automobiles.
