EU ProSun comment on Bosch leaving the solar market

Date: 26 March 2013

Milan Nitzschke, President of EU ProSun about today's decision of Bosch to step out of the solar market.

Bosch’s decision to exit the solar business is regrettably the latest example of how China is removing one competitor after another from the market through illegal subsidies, dumped prices and building up massive overcapacity.  Europe must react as quickly as possible.Since 2011 more than 40 European solar manufacturers were forced to file for bankruptcy or close plants simply due to unfair competition from China.  Prices of Chinese solar products are up to 50 percent below the cost of production cost. Such unsustainable behaviour led this week to the first casualty in China with the insolvency of Suntech, formerly the largest global solar manufacturer. Dumping harms everyone and must be stopped immediately. By June at the latest, the European Commission will make a decision on dumping duties. We expect that a good decision will restore fair competition on the European solar market, allowing European industry to flourish again thanks to its strong technological advantage over other international producers."
