This month’s issue is a truly international affair, as we bring you coverage of the Glassman Latin America show in Mexico and Gulf Glass in Dubai; company profiles on Iran’s Razi Glass and Germany’s Gerresheimer; and a country overview of the Philippines.

Saeed Sanati, Managing Director of Razi Glass, discusses the recently completed expansion at the company’s pharmaceutical facility in Tehran, which has increased production to a million bottles a day. Iran’s market is becoming more accessible to the West, and indeed Razi Glass worked with a number of European suppliers on this project, including Bucher Emahrt, Horn, Tiama MSC-SGC, and Antonini. We also speak to Gerresheimer’s Bruno Bürkel, Global Executive Vice President of Primary Packaging Glass, about the company’s cosmetics business. Gerresheimer manufactures more than one billion cosmetics bottles a year at its Tettau, Germany and Momignies, Belgium plants, and has recently invested in new, high-performance printing machines. To coincide with October’s AFGM meeting in the Philippines, we have provided an overview of the country’s hollow glass industry. We take a look at its economic growth and demand drivers, as well as the key manufacturers in the country. This month’s technical topics cover furnaces, annealing, cullet, batch plant, and handling, and features include an interview with Alain Grangeret, a well-known figure within the furnaces industry who has recently set up his own consultancy business. This is alongside the usual mix of industry news and our regular columns. Front cover image supplied by Sorg.
