Stopray Smart - making life easier for processors

Date: 1 July 2013

Stopray – AGC Glass Europe’s flagship range of magnetron-coated products – has two additions: Smart 51/33 and Smart 30/20.

These two glazings break new ground by being usable in toughened or non-toughened versions, and not requiring edge-deletion when assembled in double glazing units. They have been available since 27 June 2013.

Two major benefits

Like all products in the Stopray range, both Smart products include a silver layer providing superb solar control and thermal insulation.

All Stopray Smart products can be used in toughened or non-toughened versions, depending on how the building is specified, and both products also deliver the same energy, light and insulation performance. A single product with two uses also means that the processor requires less storage space.

The coating used on Smart products does not require edge-deletion(1) when used in double glazing units, which greatly facilitates any subsequent glass processing and yields a stunning appearance when used in a structural facade.

In addition to these new features, Stopray Smart products follow the current architectural trend towards neutral colours; Stopray Smart 30/20, for example, offers a neutral bluish tint. Boasting a very low solar factor of 33% and 20% for Stopray Smart 51/33 and Smart 30/20 respectively, these products are ideal for climates where heat control is important.  In terms of thermal insulation, Stopray Smart 51/33 and Smart 30/20 deliver an excellent Ug value of 1.1 W/(m2.K).

Developed for facade applications in all types of commercial buildings, Stopray Smart 51/33 and Smart 30/20 are a logical and practical solution for any processor seeking to combine performance with ease of processing.

Cradle to Cradle: a benefit on the road towards green certification

Both of these new Stopray Smart products are Cradle to Cradle CertifiedCM Silver(2). C2C certification is a key benefit for obtaining credits in sustainable certification systems for buildings, such as LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design)(3) and BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method). Cradle to Cradle certification enables architects and designers to drive their projects to higher levels of excellence in the sustainable certification of buildings.

(1) All information and conditions pertaining to this point are detailed in the Stopray Smart Processing Guide and the Sealant Compatibility Guide, available on www.yourglass.com.

(2) Cradle to Cradle CertifiedCM is a certification mark licensed by the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute. This rigorous programme evaluates the sustainable nature of a product as a whole, i.e. over its entire lifecycle. AGC Glass Europe is the first European glassmaker to be Cradle to Cradle CertifiedCM for its float glass as well as its soft-coated and decorative glass products. Visit
