CAM Magazine Names Pleotint’s Suntuitive Glass as Green Product of the Year

Date: 2 March 2015

Pleotint, LLC, announced that its self-tinting Suntuitive glass has been named the 2014 Green Product of the Year by Construction Association of Michigan (CAM) Magazine.

It is a great honor for Suntuitive glass to be recognized as the ‘Green Product of the Year’ by CAM Magazine,” said Jamie Selby, marketing manager of Pleotint. “It is representative of a growing concern for better performing buildings.People all over are looking for ways to improve daylighting and conserve energy. Suntuitive self-tinting glass enables them to do both at the same time. There were six deserving products up for consideration and we are thrilled with this recognition. We thank the Michigan Alternative and Renewable Energy Center (MAREC) for installing windows at their LEED Gold facility and for nominating Suntuitive glass.”

At the MAREC building, on the campus of Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan, four test windows featuring Suntuitive glass were installed as part of a research project to examine and quantify the advantages of Suntuitive glass over conventional low-e windows. The photo on the left shows Suntuitive glass in a clear state on a cold and cloudy day, while the photo on the right shows the self-tinting glass adapting to a sunny day to limit solar heat gain and glare.

MAREC, located at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan, researches and demonstrates the technical and economic performance of renewable energy and energy-efficient technology. As a CAM member, MAREC links business, education, and government resources to support the commercialization of new technology and advance emerging technology.

Kim Walton, program and research director of MAREC, said the facility is excited to showcase a locally made product that can improve building comfort and lower energy costs. “We are currently involved in a research project with Pleotint to examine and quantify the advantages of Suntuitive glass,” she added. “Results are expected later this year.”

To be considered for the Green Product of the Year award, products must be submitted by a CAM member that implemented the product in a recent project. Submissions must state how the product is earth friendly and aids in the project’s sustainability, as well as include environmental goals and/or innovative techniques that were used. The winner is selected by the CAM Magazine staff.
