Pilkington: New home for butterflies

 The butterflies at Melbourne Zoo have gone upmarket with a new accommodation wing featuring Pilkington glass.
The extension to the existing butterfly house uses a new 'soft white' PVB interlayer in a 12.38mm laminated glass, supplied from the Wetherill Park plant in New South Wales.
The glass was sent to the Dandenong site in Victoria for processing and installation. Pilkington and DuPont then joined forces to donate the glass to the butterfly house project as part of a long-standing support programme for Melbourne Zoo.
Peter Courtney, curator of birds, native animals and invertebrates, said the new Pilkington product had proved ideal for providing a softly-lit environment for the winged inhabitants whilst limiting heat build-up in the interests of visitor comfort.
The extension will house butterflies and specimen vegetation but will be used primarily as an education centre.
