In his letter to shareholders in the company's 2001 Annual Report, DuPont Chairman and CEO Chad Holliday says DuPont and its employees have good reason to be proud as the company celebrates its 200th anniversary this year.

"The scientific innovations we have brought to the world have helped generations of people around the globe live more productive and prosperous lives," he notes. "They (DuPont employees) have joined in the cause of freedom during conflict, and they have amplified hope and happiness in times of peace. Our products have been to the bottom of oceans, to the poles, to the highest mountains, to the Moon, Mars and Jupiter. Yet they are as close to us as the everyday world of our kitchens and cars, our farms and fashions."

Chad says DuPont is making the changes necessary to ensure continued growth in its third century. "We have taken dynamic transformational steps to ensure the growth of DuPont in the 21st Century," he continues. "Our new growth platforms, more tightly focused on markets and technologies, will enable faster execution and an improved capability for innovation, acquisitions and value creation."

He adds that transforming a science company takes flexibility, imagination, a favorable business environment and market opportunities. "The willingness to undertake profound change to remake the company is in the 'DNA' of DuPont," Chad says. "Our predecessors never shrank from it. The constants have been our core values - safety, health and the environment, ethics and respect for people. This is especially important to remember this year as we celebrate the 200th anniversary of DuPont."
