The first GPD China was organized in 1994. After a few year´s break the true GPD China tradition began in 2004 in Beijing. The event gathered then an audience of 180 participants. Since 2004 , it has been held every year alternately between the cities of Shanghai and Beijing with around 300 attendees each year. Today GPD China represents one of the most important events GPD organizes. The organizers of the event are Glaston, China Buildings Material Academy and China Building Material Test and Certification Center. GPD China has been held in conjunction with China Glass, one of the most respected trade fairs in Asia.
The main objective of GPD is to build a platform for sharing, collecting and distributing information on glass as a versatile, safe and competitive material. Additionally, GPD now creates networking opportunities between architects, structural designers, research institutes, universities, and the global glass industry decision makers. By bringing together experts from the fields mentioned before, GPD China represents a platform for future innovations and their commercialization, while aiming towards the harmonization of global standards and the promotion of high performance value added products.
