SOLARBAN 60 by PPG helps Legg Mason Tower earn LEED Silver certification

All-glass envelope promotes daylighting, energy efficiency for Baltimore landmark Legg Mason Tower in Baltimore, the 650,000-square-foot headquarters for one of the country’s largest investment firms, earned LEED(R) Silver certification, due in part to the expansive use of SOLARBAN(R) 60 glass by PPG Industries (NYSE:PPG) on the building envelope. Solarban 60 glass has visible light transmittance (VLT) of 70 percent, which works with the building’s open offices and interior glass walls to enable natural sunlight to flood workspaces.

With a solar heat-gain coefficient of (SHGC) 0.38, Solarban 60 glass also works in tandem with a high-efficiency heating and cooling plant to lower heating, ventilation and air-conditioning costs and make the whole building “incredibly energy efficient,” said Michael Beatty, president of developer H&S Properties Development.
