A glass octagon with a base measuring 365 centimetres, one centimetre for each day of the year. This is the icon identifying the new bookshop in the cathedral in Milan, designed by Gianni Arlunno assisted by architect Massimo Martin, with structural design by Mario Bassignana.
The glass sheets are fixed using OXIDAL "Era D" articulated screws with flat rings, made entirely of Aisi 316L stainless steel ensuring high strength.Maximum safety level is guaranteed by a series of tests carried out on the product, certifying a load-bearing capacity of more than 300 kg each screw.
The glass octagon may be admired in the second bay on the southern side of the cathedral, positioned symmetrically in relation to the baptismal font to balance volumes and symbols.
What is making the bookshop unique and impressive is the sunlight flowing through the glass, which acts as a prism, transforming it into an "evanescent" object perfectly integrated into the cathedral's amazing architecture.
