First presented in 1966, the RIBA national awards is an annual architecture prize that celebrates the best buildings built in the UK. The V&A Dundee, which is Scotland’s first dedicated design museum, won a national RIBA award and was praised by RIBA for its “unique geometric forms”. FGS was responsible for manufacturing and installing a building envelope comprising it flagship VS-1 curtain walling system, overcoming unique challenges associated with its waterside location.
Also receiving a national RIBA award is the Macallan Distillery on Speyside which is an iconic new distillery and visitor experience which reveals the production process and welcomes visitors while remaining sensitive to the beautiful surrounding countryside. FGS was brought to the project by main contractor, Robertson Construction, to design, manufacture and install its new glass façade.
In addition, Nicholas Hare Architects’ UCL Student Centre project has won a Schueco Excellence Award 2019 in the Education category. Achieving exemplary sustainability targets – BREEAM Outstanding – main contractor Mace appointed FGS to design, supply and install the Schueco curtain walling, windows and doors. FGS worked with the architects and Schueco’s technical department to develop a design and installation package of Schueco curtain walling, windows and doors.
The Schueco Excellence Awards celebrate the best in design and collaboration recognising the work of architects, specialist contractors and fabricators in developing and realising Schueco façade, windows and door systems to deliver excellent buildings. We attended the awards ceremony on 27 June and were thrilled to receive the coveted Overall Winner Award for our work on the UCL Student Centre.
