TECDUR® Enhanced Security Glazing Secures LPCB Security Approval

Date: 6 July 2012

TECDUR® enhanced security glass from GLASSOLUTIONS – the company formerly known as Solaglas – has secured LPCB (Loss Prevention Certification Board) approval to give specifiers and facilities managers independent assurance of its superior resistance to smash and grab style attacks.

Designed for applications which demand enhanced security without impacting on the window’s transparency or impeding the view, TECDUR is ideally suited to the windows of high value retailers such as jewellers, designer fashion brands and electrical goods. It is also an effective security measure for banks, bookmakers, casinos, garage forecourt retailers or any other building where risk mitigation must be balanced with customer engagement and open-ness to the general public.TECDUR’s performance is delivered by its innovative material composition.  To the naked eye it looks like standard glazing, but it provides greater security than laminated glass and can withstand multiple blows from an axe or hammer attack - the weapons of choice for smash and grab criminals. This was demonstrated recently to more than twenty GLASSOLUTIONS customers, representing organisations including Interserve, Amey , Bank of England and GSH, held at the BRE as part of its approval process for LPBC through an attack simulation.Crucially for specifiers, the installation of TECDUR enhanced security glazing could serve to reduce insurance premiums – particularly now that the product demonstrates independent testing to insurers through its LPCB approval.  And for retailers aiming to maximize sales, the neutral appearance of the glass ensures shoppers can view the window display with ease with no aesthetic impact on the shop front design or image.Mike Butterick, marketing director at GLASSOLUTIONS said: “Smash and grab crime is costing UK businesses, consumers and insurance companies millions of pounds every year.  It is a growing problem but TECDUR enhanced security glass provides a solution, which will help to combat this violent crime.”TECDUR is suitable for single and double glazed windows and doors and is available in large sizes suitable for shop fronts.  It can be fitted into new premises and also easily retrofitted on-site into existing door and window frames.  It can also be cut from stock sheets and processed to accommodate different shapes and sizes and specific design features.
