Solar glass manufacturer f | solar GmbH starts series production of 2 mm thin solar glass with low iron-oxide content

Date: 2 July 2013

The company f | solar GmbH presents in this year at the „Intersolar Europe 2013“ in Munich a solar float glass with a thickness of only 2 mm and a very low iron content.

Initially made in series production, this glass is heat-strengthened and provided with extremely robust and homogenous antireflection coating. This product with the name f | solarfloat HT is optimally suited for long-life and low-weight Glass-Glass-PV-Modules of the latest generation.

- Specifically suited for Glass-Glass-PV-Modules of new design

- Being the first solar glass manufacturer, f | solar GmbH files an application for the allgemeine bauaufsichtliche Zulassung ‘national technical approval’ (abZ) for 2 mm thick heat-strengthened glass with the Deutsches Institut für Bautechnik (DiBt) in Berlin

The float glass technology ensures consistent high quality of thin glass:

The new solar glass is exclusively made on the basis of the float glass technology. This well-tried process ensures the maintenance of tight manufacturing tolerances and low defect density as decisive advantages for the following processes, such as tempering.

The high pre-stressing rate of glass is a decisive prerequisite for the strength of the Glass-Glass-PV-Laminate. Therefore, the ultra-modern continuous tempering furnace of f | solar ensures optimum results with regard to planeness and bending tensile strength. With its typical bending tensile strength of 120 N / mm² this heat-strengthened 2 mm solar glass even exceeds the standard requirements for 4 mm standard glass. Being the first solar glass manufacturer, f | solar GmbH filed its application for the allgemeine bauaufsichtliche Zulassung ‘national technical approval’ (abZ) for 2 mm thick heat-strengthened glass with the Deutsches Institut für Bautechnik (DiBt) in Berlin.

f | solarfloat HT is provided with extremely robust and homogenous mono-broadband antireflection coating under purest vacuum conditions so that some 94% of energy transmission (TePV) are ensured. Therefore, the glass is optimally suited for silicon solar cells with selective emitter technology.
