Safelite Group Acquires Detroit-Based Michigan Mobile

Date: 11 October 2013

Safelite® Group, the nation’s leading vehicle glass services company and owner of Safelite AutoGlass®, has reached an agreement to acquire substantially all of the vehicle glass division assets of Detroit-based Michigan Mobile Glass & Trim Inc., not including its glazing-related business.

The deal was finalized at the close of business October 4, 2013.

Michigan Mobile was founded in 1974 and operates three locations in the Detroit metro area and one store in Traverse City. The company has 26 employees.

The acquisition is the continuation of Safelite’s mission to grow in the U.S. and to become the customer’s “natural choice” for vehicle glass repair and replacement services. It will allow for more coverage to better serve customers and meet insurance client needs as Michigan Mobile’s southern Detroit stores complement Safelite’s northern Detroit facilities.

Michigan Mobile’s current management team, including original co-founder Gerald Johnson, his son Jerry Johnson and daughter Sherry Dumbeck will play a significant role in the transition. With their combined expertise in management / operations and vehicle glass repair and replacement, they will make excellent additions to the Safelite® team.

“We are pleased to welcome Michigan Mobile’s employees to the Safelite® team,” said Tom Feeney, president and CEO of Safelite® Group. “As we continue to grow our company – both through strategic acquisitions of smaller, strong regional brands, as well as through organic growth, we know that our associates will benefit from our commitment to giving them all the resources they need to succeed and that our customers will continue to receive the best value and service in the industry.”

Safelite® Group is a subsidiary of Belron®, the world’s largest and most successful retail vehicle glass repair and replacement company. Belron® operates in 35 countries.
