The top ten is comprised of buildings in located solely in Moscow, London and Istanbul and is topped by the Federation Tower in Moscow.
The news confirms the Metropol as officially the second tallest in Istanbul where it is widely considered as an emblem of the city’s bright future.
The building joins RMJM’s growing profile of skyscrapers and is also the tallest RMJM have built in Europe. In fact, RMJM have only ever made three taller buildings in their history which top the Metropol: The Gate to the East, the Zhunhai St. Regis Hotel & Office Tower and the Suning Plaza Tower.
RMJM is continuing its work on pioneering skyscrapers having been appointed as the Executive Architect and Interior Designer for ‘The Tower‘, a landmark structure that is set to become one of the world’s most iconic modern buildings
The history of the Metropol is an interesting one, in that the skyscraper stands in-between two smaller towers, also designed by RMJM.
The project forms a key component in the development of the wider Atasehir Central Business District & New Financial District. Situated in the East Atasehir District of Istanbul, the Metropol also now mirrors Istanbul’s own status as both a financial and cultural centre.
The Metropol itself is characterised by it’s curvy glass facade on one side which gives the structure a slender look as it ascends towards the top of its 58 storeys.
The tower stands above a 30,000-square-meter public shopping mall, a 16-theatre cineplex and a 400-metre open-air promenade which is lined by exclusive retail on the mall’s rooftop.
RMJM Istanbul’s delivery of this project is one of many recent successes for the studio who unveiled the G Tower earlier this year and are currently working on a series of high-profile developments.
