The color of glass is an important design and quality factor; it can even be the decisive factor regarding the product acceptance.

The continuous and objective control of the color is an absolute prerequisite for constant quality, especially when natural or recycled materials with varying chemical composition are used.

In combination with a PC-controlled spectrophotometer, the software package PRISMA 2002 determines exactly the spectral transmittance and reflectance properties of glass and calculates and displays the corresponding CIExyz, Helmholtz and CIELAB color values.

The software meets the special needs of the flat glass industry by calculating the parameters defined in EN 410 and ISO 9050/9845-1. For packaging glass, two new add-ons make it possible to determine the concentrations of coloring ions and to predict the color effect, starting from a given glass composition.
