Developement on a new glass furnace - Steklarna Hrastnik

Date: 22 February 2013

On Wednesday, 13 February 2013, the Chairman of the Board Andrej Bozic, performed the last act in the construction of the new glass furnace-the so-called “hammering of the last firebrick ” into the arch.

This is an ancient glass-makers’ tradition that requires the director to buy as many carafes of wine as is the number of blows he made in order to hammer down the last firebrick.  This act signals that construction works on the furnace have been roughly completed. To build the furnace, we have spent 660 tonnes of fireproof material and 220 tonnes of the steel structural frame.

The furnace, which is currently in the heating stage, will be filled with mixture in the last days of February, as planned. Presently, all works related to energy supply and machine installation are underway.

Upon this occasion, it should be stressed that the management is very proud of its co-workers and contractors and that all works have been carried out according to the plan.

Furthermore, the realisation of an investment of €7 million is almost entirely the result of domestic know-how.

The new furnace is expected to bring along energy efficiency, better quality of glass and an improved competitive position on the global market, not to mention much better working conditions for our colleagues.
