When? Tuesday 18th of June 2013 from 16:00 to 18:30

Where? Sofitel Brussels, Avenue de la Toison d'Or 40, Brussels

As Europe progressively implements its 2020 strategy for smart, sustainable and inclusive growth, the concept of a circular economy is frequently presented as the only alternative to the current linear patterns of production and consumption. There is nothing new about the circular economy: the glass industry is already a successful example. But if used more widely, the circular economy holds great potential to improve Europe's competitiveness.

FEVE is hosting this open-day meeting to explore with a broad range of stakeholders how far the circular economy has been deployed. Against the background of increasing scarcity and cost of raw materials, we want to examine how a shift towards greater resource efficiency could play to the advantage of Europe’s industries. And what are the relative merits of closed loop and open loop approaches to recycling and turning waste into a resource?

We will be debating these questions with our speakers and seeking the views of the audience in a discussion moderated by Peter O’Donnell, Associate Editor at European Voice.
