CAB Appoint New Technical Director

CAB is delighted to announce that Dr Justin Furness has joined CAB as its first full time Technical Director on 18th February 2013.

Justin, who has a strong background in engineering materials, with a degree in Materials Science & Metallurgy and a PhD on aluminium-based metal matrix composites has worked in technical information roles at the Institute of Materials and the Design Council and was Consultancy Services Manager at the University of Bath.He has successfully undertaken bid and project management for several multi-million pound projects and is experienced in facilitating knowledge transfer between industry and the science-base.Justin is also the author of several technical design guides and has co-authored an undergraduate text on engineering materials.He has worked on behalf of several trade associations and professional societies in the UK and Europe, focusing on materials measurement.

Justin commented, “This is a really exciting opportunity for me to help CAB members with the many challenges they face in the UK and Europe. I am looking forward to meeting members over the next few months and working with the CAB team representing the sector, developing our technical services and helping to bring new members on board.”

Commenting on the appointment, CAB chief executive, Justin Ratcliffe said, ‘We are delighted to have Justin on board in the newly created role and he joins a strong team. As an Association, we have always been committed to adding value for our members by being the ‘recognised voice of the sector’ and this appointment is further commitment to that mission’.
