The Council for Aluminium in Building celebrated its 19th AGM and Annual Dinner at the Belfry in early July in defiant mood.

CAB President, Mo Panam, announced that the Association’s latest Q2, 2013 State of Trade Survey highlighted that a net balance of 64% of members expected sales growth over the next 12 months and that CAB member companies had reported increased expected capital investment in plant and equipment, property, e-business and R & D over the same period. The event which included a golf and activities day attracted a record attendance of members and their guests.Speaking just prior to the dinner, Mo Panam, CAB’s President was upbeat about the future of the Association and the growing confidence.

Obviously we have been hit by the reductions in government expenditure, but Aluminium fenestration continues to gain ground over other materials in the home improvements sector, as homeowners see Aluminium as a high quality material that has a very long life. After CAB’s recent project work with BRE, powder coated aluminium windows can now achieve ‘A+’ and ‘A’ ratings for commercial and domestic applications respectively and this can only support this momentum.”

The President welcomed six new members into CAB membership since the beginning of the year, Float Glass Industries, Jack Aluminium, Emperor Shopfitters, Total Aluminium, Dutemänn and Metalline (Services). CAB’s support for the businesses that interface directly with the aluminium in building supply chain is attracting further new fabricator members in 2013.

CAB released its 2013 Annual Report at the AGM which looks at a dynamic year in the Association’s development and includes the appointment of a new Technical Director, Dr Justin Furness. With a larger team, CAB is set for future growth and welcomes the challenges ahead. Mo commented, ‘There has never been a better time to join and make use of the vast array of technical and marketing added value services’.
