CONTRAFLAM® Mega comfortably achieved the EI 30 and 60 minutes fire-resistance classification. It enables the design of ever higher curtain walls without intermediate joints or framing between the floor and the ceiling, offering greater visual transparency and light transmission. Vetrotech was the only glassmaker capable of equipping the grand atrium on the ground floor of No.1 Forbury Place with 4.5m fire-rated glazing, in collaboration with the metal work specialist Arkoni.
This 17,300m2 office space is, further to having the largest fire resistant glass installed, the largest in Europe to contain butt-jointed glass, i.e. with no intermediary mullion.
The project was designed by Aukett Swanke architects for the property developers M&G Real Estate and Bell Hammer. No.1 Forbury Place is the second of the estate’s three buildings to have been completed. It is occupied by the Scottish energy giant SSE (Scottish & Southern Energy). The construction of building #2 is due to be completed in 2017.
