Some bottles of the energy drink V have been recalled due to fears they may contain broken glass. Only one production run of 350ml bottles of the product was affected, an advertisement placed in newspapers today by producer Frucor Beverages said today.

"While the risk is considered minimal and there have been no reports of injury, this product should not be consumed," the company said in the advertisement. The bottles affected have a best before date of August 2 and 3, 2004.

"It does not affect V cans or multi-pack bottles or any other beverages manufactured by Frucor." An independent analyst was investigating the cause of the contamination, Frucor chief executive Carl Bergstrom told NZPA today.

"Production is on hold until we have been satisfied the problem has been rectified. We believe we'll have the cause pinpointed within the next day or so." Around 3500 cases of the drink were affected, Mr Bergstrom said. Anyone who had bought an affected bottle could return it to the retailer for a full refund, he said.
