The works, on loan from the private collectors Ferial Salahshur and Jahangir Kazeruni, date back to the Qajar era and feature a combination of ancient Iranian art with Islamic stories.
The show will display the last surviving works of one of Iran’s fading art forms, which are the only references for scholars, artists, and art students.
Salahshur and Kazeruni gathered the items from bakeries, butcher shops, and teahouses all over the country 35 years ago.
The artworks depict historical events, stories, war scenes, dervishes, prophets, Imams, and religious leaders.
Several experts will deliver lectures on the art form and discuss the works during research sessions to be held on the sidelines of the exhibition, which runs until April 20.
