Tvitec has been granted the Isolar Award 2018 for the sustainable glazing of its landmark project in Washington, DC.

Isolar Glas, one of the main European glass fabricator association has granted Tvitec System Glass the “Most Representative Project Award” for its performance on the glazing of 1100 15th Street Midtown Center.
  • More than 22,000 square metres of architectural glass have transformed the former Washington Post Headquarters into a modern commercial and banking complex.
  • 1100 15th Street Midtown Center was designed by SHoP Architects and the insulating and safety glass is the key on this new enclosure.

Isolar Glas, one of the main European glass fabricator association has granted Tvitec System Glass the “Most Representative Project Award” for its performance on the glazing of 1100 15th Street Midtown Center. This building complex is a Tvitec’s landmark in Washington, DC. 

Tvitec has supplied from its premises in Cubillos del Sil, close to Ponferrada, more than 22,000 square metres of different sustainable glass products to transform the former Washington Post Headquarters into a modern commercial and office complex that will host the Fannie Mae Headquarters. The Isolar Award 2018 to the “Most Representative Project” was handed in to a Tvitec’s delegation during the annual meeting of the German glass association. 

This award will be shared with the main agents of the project development, specially those related to the façade execution: the prestigious architecture office, SHoP, the curtain wall installer, Oldcastle Building Envelope (OBE) and the General Contractor, Clark Construction.

Tvitec fabricated for the Midtown Center project, developed by Carr Properties, about 5,000 insulating glass units with high selective coatings Guardian Climaguard Premium 2T and AGC Stopray Vistion 50T on Ipawhite in order to enhance the energy efficiency both in the inside and outside of the building. 

The Spanish architectural glass fabricator performed its technology 4.0 on tempering (HST) and laminating to warranty the safety and soundproofing properties specified on this challenging project.

Midtown Center, in Washington DC’s heart, consists of two 14-storey blocks connected by several footbridges over a big central ground. The exclusive façade designed by SHoP is a curtain wall composed of glass and copper panels, and aluminium extrusions through 40 different geometric articulations. 

Tvitec’s International Director, David Lopez, felt satisfied with this award and dedicated it to the American companies that trusted Tvitec. The company is currently involved in other emblematic projects not only in Washington, DC but in New York City, Boston, Dallas or Miami, among other important US cities. In some cases, in “super-tall” building over 300 metres high.
