TV star Tomlinson helps launch manufacturer of toughened glass

A new company manufacturing and selling toughened glass has started trading in Knowsley, creating 17 jobs.

Impact Safety Glass will supply its products to double glazing firms from its 27,000 sq ft base at Moorgate Point.The venture was launched last week with the help of Royle Family star Ricky Tomlinson.Directors Tony Harford and John McDonough, who have a combined 40 years experience in the industry, hope to be employing 30 people within 12 months.Backing for the firm has come from HSBC, Merseyside Special Investment Fund, Asset Finance, a grant awarded by Knowsley Council and from the directors' own pockets.Mr Harford said: "The opportunity has arisen due to changes in legislation requiring the mandatory use of energy-saving glass within all insulated glass units."We believe as long as a consistent supply of good-quality toughened glass continues the company will retain its market share."
