Three experts from gold sponsor Trosifol, gave well-attended lectures at the recent GPD event.

Jennifer Schneider, Segment Manager of Structural and Security Glazing at Trosifol, introduced the latest generation of SentryGlas® ionoplastics - SentryGlas®Xtra™ - for enhanced glass lamination capabilities. Where there are permanently high ambient temperatures combined with long-lasting load cycles, ionoplastic films exhibit excellent functional product properties compared to alternative materials.

Dr. Michael Härth, an expert in polymer rheology and responsible for the development of new products at Trosifol, spoke about determining the mechanical properties of interlayers in laminated glass. He explained the ‘Effective Thickness Concept’ and derived from it the correct determination of the structural load for a laminated glass, when made using Trosifol® Extra Stiff.

Vaughn Schauss, longtime technical consultant for the Americas, compared tests and calculations for cantilevered balustrade applications made of laminated safety glass. In particular, he referred to recent amendments to the International Building Code (IBC 2015) calling for heat-strengthened or tempered laminated glass. He also designed a workshop with Mario Radke, Ingo Stelzer and other experts to explain and contrast the latest technologies in laminating glass.

Ingo Stelzer was also a member of the GPD committee, and he and colleague Vaughn Schauss served as session chairmen for the Structural and Laminating tracks.
