Touch panels for navigation systems in cars are factory-built into cars and must fulfil rigid requirements. Schott Spezialglas AG's thin borosilicate glass is claimed to be much harder wearing and higher quality than the plastic foil still used frequently in this application.

The colourless borosilicate glass 263 T has a fire-polished surface and offers excellent chemical stability, giving it numerous uses. Because of its high light-transmittance, its flatness and its extremely small thickness, this glass is well suited to touch panels. 236 T is manufactured using the draw-down method in which the glass is pulled down from the top to the bottom. This makes it possible to achieve thicknesses between 0.03 and 1.1mm.
