Hall 12 / Stand C31The number of occasions on which Korntal-Münchingen-based Tampoprint AG is the driving force behind digital printing innovations is really quite impressive.

In addition to the DMD U 1500 inkjet digital printing machine, which relies purely on flat-bed technology, a second machine series has been developed, this time using Epson technology. This series has been embroiled for some time in beta testing at a digital printing centre.

The new digital printing machine consciously harks back to the tried-and-tested table feed system used in the DMD U 1500, where the flexibility of the table has already been proven with many users. Admittedly, the max. print height setting has been raised to 500 mm for the new generation of machines. The EP 1600 has 4 print heads, which means that it is now possible to print at up to 1440 dpi if required. Tampoprint has calculated that printing speeds of up to 28 square metres per hour at 360 dpi can be achieved, aided by rapid table retraction in just 10 sec. Each of these 4 print heads is equipped with 2 inks and 180 nozzles per ink. The solvent pigment ink used here provides the customer with UV-resistance for up to 3 years. The standard supply of ink is 2 x 4 ink cartridges. The manufacturer also offers the option of 6 inks and an ink reservoir with a capacity of up to 1000ml per ink. At the ink development stage, particular attention was given to the flexibility of both the rigid and flexible materials to be decorated or printed. It is therefore possible to print on dibond, signicolor, wood, plastics and paper using the same ink. With an appropriate ink setting, glass and linens can be processed using the same ink.

The table machine has a printing width of 1600 mm and a printing length of 2500 mm; a printing height of up to 500 mm can be set. According to Tampoprint specifications, the total dimensions of the machine are: length 6240 mm, width 2552 mm and height 1700 mm. The manufacturer felt it was crucial to design a digital printing machine for daily use. In order for users to be able to provide customers with a complete service, an optional heating/drying unit, ionisation system, vacuum plate, extraction system or overpressure system, plus a refillable 1000 ml ink cartridge, can also be ordered as accessories.

The machine is operated using Wasatch or Poster Shop software. Firewire IEEE – 1394 or IEEE – 1284 interfaces are provided as standard. The sturdy machine stand means that the customer does not incur any significant cost for machine set-up and can commission the machine on-site in a short time with no need for additional assistance. The compact printing machine, weighing just 1600 kg, can be delivered worldwide at no significant transportation cost. The sale price for the EP 1600 has not yet been finalised, but it’s a safe bet that any potentially interested parties will be pleasantly surprised by it.
