Corning Display Technologies Taiwan predicts that supply of glass substrates for production of 5G and up panels will tighten for the next few months.

According to Eugene A Verdon Jr., president of Corning, most panel makers in Taiwan are already ramping up capacities at their 5G facilities. Panel makers, such as AU Optronics Corp., Chi Mei Optoelectronics, Chunghwa Picture Tubes Ltd and Innolux Display Corp., have already secured supply from the company for their next-generation glass substrates.

This quarter, the company has decreased its prices of 6G glass substrates by only 3 percent, slightly lower than its expectations of price decline by 5 percent.

Corning will begin operations at its 6G melting tank in the third quarter while test production is expected to begin in the last quarter of the year.
