The German company Steinert Industries GmbH will begin building a 236 million-euro glass factory in Kazakhstan this January.

Deputy chief of the Aktyubinsk regional administration Nurmukhambet Abdibekov told Interfax the plant will be located in Aktobe, the region's administrative center.

TOO Interglass Kazakhstan, a wholly owned Steinert subsidiary, has been set up for the project's implementation. Its general director, Alexander Firsov, said plans call for getting the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) involved in the financing. He did not rule out the actual project price tag being lower, figuring the lower prices for domestically-produced building materials and the services of local contractors.
