Vandals threw stones through five windows at Holy Trinity Church on Rose Hill between Saturday evening (May 8) and Sunday morning (May 9).The attack on Holy Trinity is the latest in a line of vandalism at churches in the area.The Standard reported back in November how vandals had damaged All Saints church and stole a bottle of communion wine.Vicar Rev Philip Swan said that the damage at Holy Trinity was first noticed during communion on Sunday morning.He said: "We saw a small hole in one of the windows, which is dedicated to the memory of Baroness Windsor, an instrumental figure in building the church."One of the congregation then found a marble which may have been used to make the hole."
The damage to the five panes of stained glass is estimated to be around £500 worth.
Mr Swan said: "We all very much regret this damage and it has been very distressing.
"Church time is now being used to clean up and repair the windows, when we should be out working in the community."
Mr Swan also said that the idea of bars on the windows had been mooted, but added it would make the church feel too fortified.
