Solvay S.A., Brussels, and Henkel Bautechnik GmbH, Dsseldorf, concluded an alliance concerning flat roof products on the German and Austrian markets.

Under the agreement, which is subject to prior anti-trust notification, Henkel Bautechnik GmbH, an affiliate of the Henkel Group, would take over the distribution and marketing in Germany and Austria of the roofing product lines Alkorplan and Alkorflex from Alkor Draka Handel GmbH, a subsidiary of the Solvay Group.“Our co-operation with Henkel will be most beneficial to our customers, as we will be able to offer them a wider product range as well as better service through an even denser network of technical and commercial advisors”, said Georges Snoeck, director of Solvay’s waterproofing activities. “This alliance, although perhaps relatively minor for the Group in terms of actual turnover, would help secure Alkor Draka’s development in a very competitive market”, Georges Snoeck added.Solvay and Henkel are considering extending their co-operation to other European countries.Contrary to the Agence France Presse report of Dec. 4, 2001, it must be stressed that Solvay is neither selling its flat roofing product businesses, nor does the amount of EUR 51 million, which is mentioned in the report, correspond to any reality.Solvay S.A., Brussels, and Henkel Bautechnik GmbH, Dsseldorf, concluded an alliance concerning flat roof products on the German and Austrian markets.
