PPG offers expanded color palette, enhanced solar control for architects, building owners  PPG announced SOLARBAN® 90 glass, the first solar control, low-emissivity (low-e) glass engineered with PPG’s proprietary “quad-silver” coating technology, can now be paired in insulating glass units (IGUs) with STARPHIRE ULTRA-CLEAR™, OPTIBLUE® and OPTIGRAY® glasses by PPG.

Glenn T. Miner, PPG director of construction, flat glass, said that using Solarban 90 glass with ultra-clear and tinted glasses gives architects more options for attaining the right balance of performance and aesthetics they desire for individual projects. “Solarban 90 glass was developed after months of sample review and consultation with architects,” he explained.  “Our common goal was to satisfy demands for a high-performance low-e glass that could meet stricter building codes for solar control while achieving the neutral-reflective appearance of clear glass. The benefits associated with Solarban 90 glass can now be united with an expanded color palette.”

Introduced in 2015, Solarban 90 glass combines the neutral reflectivity, neutral color and high visible light transmittance (VLT) of clear glass with a robust solar control barrier. It blocks heat gain 15 percent more effectively than Solarban 70XL glass by PPG, which is the industry’s most widely specified triple-silver-coated solar control, low-e glass.
