Hans Siemens, a brother of Werner von Siemens, founded a glass factory in Dresden 150 years ago in 1856 with the intention of revolutionizing glass production with innovative technologies and ideas.
After his death, his brother Friedrich took over the glass factory. His invention of the regenerative furnace for glass melting, a genuine milestone for the entire industry, marks the beginning of industrial glass manufacture. In 1912, Siemens advanced to become the most important producer of hollow glass. Today, the Siemens subsidiary Osram manufactures more than 90 percent of the glass required for its lamp production itself.
