Shaping the Future - Glasstec Press Release

ASHTON INDUSTRIAL, leading innovators in high speed fully automatic arrissing (seaming) of glass prior to tempering, have developed the first ever robotic arrisser for automatically processing shapes without any pre-programming.

It is the perfect tool for manufacturers of high-spec glass panels destined for the magnificent building facades that are changing our city skylines.

SHAPESEAM-PRO™ (pictured right - under construction) is unique in that it scans every pane of glass, loaded in any random sequence the operator desires: the scanned image is digitised and transmitted to a 6-axis robot arrissing head which fully automatically recognises glass shape, size and position on the conveyor. Each glass is individually raised up on vacuum pads and supports, which are automatically selected to suit the glass shape and size. With the glass thus presented, the robot arrissing head passes around the whole circumference at high speed performing upper and lower arriss simultaneously.

A 3-head model is also planned for the future, which will smooth the glass edge at the same time as performing upper and lower arrissing.

The base model is designed for maximum glass size 2500 x 2000mm but with options to increase that to 4500 x 2500mm.

Pricing starts at an incredibly attractive GBP 175,000 inclusive of delivery which must make this heavy-duty robot one of the best value for money prospects ever.

The horizontal concept fits neatly between cutting and tempering to minimise glass handling, and the average cycle time of under 30 seconds applies to any shape from rectangle, triangle, rake-top, arch-top, even circles and ovals which cannot be processed on vertical machines. The only limitation is concave edges (internal radii).

There is no shape library, no requirement for advance data of any kind, just load the glass and push the start pedal.SHAPESEAM-PRO™ will be premiered alongside the latest ASHTON high-speed SEAMMAX-X PRO™ which arrisses rectangles at up to 7 pieces per minute,  HWPRO™ high performance washer, and both wet and dry variations of the world renowned UNIX manual arrissing machines at the forthcoming Glasstec show on a 3,000 square feet stand in Ashton’s usual prime location in the top corner corner of Hall 15.
