SCHOTT North America, Inc. (SCHOTT) announced today that it has acquired ELECPAC of Cary, Il., a division of Wilbrecht Electronics, Inc. (St.

Paul, Minn.). Effective with this announcement, the division has been renamed SCHOTT ELECPAC, LLC and will become a wholly owned subsidiary of SCHOTT North America, Inc.

SCHOTT ELECPAC produces glass-to-metal hermetic feedthroughs, headers, and connectors used in defense, aerospace, and medical applications. The company, which employs approximately 65 people, does not expect any layoffs in conjunction with this announcement. Ron Campbell, who has 30 years in the electronic packaging industry, will become President and General Manager of SCHOTT ELECPAC, LLC.

“ELECPAC represents a tremendous opportunity for SCHOTT to expand its global manufacturing footprint in the electronic packaging space,” Andreas Becker, Chairman of the Board of SCHOTT ELECPAC, LLC. “U.S.-based manufacturing will allow us to better serve the domestic market.”

Electronic Packaging, produced by ELECPAC, complements SCHOTT’s existing manufacturing capabilities while adding glass-to-metal seal connectors for special applications.

“With the acquisition of ELECPAC, SCHOTT is now able to provide our North American customers a complete local portfolio of R&D, technical customer support, production, sales and marketing.” commented Hermann Ditz, President of SCHOTT’s Electronic Packaging business.

SCHOTT’s Electronic Packaging business unit has been developing and supplying hermetic packages and feedthroughs for more than 60 years and is a leading manufacturer of housings and other components for the reliable, long-term protection for sensitive electronics. Its core technologies are glass-to-metal and ceramic-to-metal sealing and thermal sensing components, as well as a variety of cutting edge specialty glass competences. The business unit already has a number of production sites and competence centers in several countries in Europe, like the UK, Germany and Czech Republic, as well as in Asia, e.g. Singapore, Japan, China.

“SCHOTT ELECPAC will build upon ELECPAC’s quality manufacturing capabilities while leveraging SCHOTT’s extensive experience and knowledge of the market,” said Ron Campbell, President and General Manager of SCHOTT ELECPAC. “The company is an ideal fit for SCHOTT, and we will fully integrate it into SCHOTT’s expansive capabilities.”

The acquisition of ELECPAC marks SCHOTT’s continued emphasis on the defense and security industries in the U.S. market. The company acquired sole-ownership of SCHOTT DAP, a manufacturer of armor systems, in January, 2009. The group’s sales and marketing activities for the defense sector are headquartered in Crystal City (Arlington), VA.

2009 marks the 125th anniversary of the global SCHOTT group.
