Opened last August, the Global Environmental Recycling Company plant at Birkenhead will mean glass from around 2 million old television sets each year can be turned back into new television sets.
Last Thursday saw an official ceremony marking the agreement between Global Environmental Recycling and Samsung, which will see the Merseyside company sending around 30,000 tonnes of processed glass to a factory in Malaysia to be made into new electrical products.
The £1.5 million plant on Campbeltown Road will also deal with graphite and around 2,500 tonnes of lead materials each year from the waste electrical and electronic equipment.
The plant uses specially-designed machines that use a completely "dry process", with no chemicals.
