According to a report in the IHS Automotive’s Supplier Business newsletter, the $50 million (463 million yuan) plant produces window films and backsheet materials. The factory is located near an existing flat-glass production facility in the same coastal city of Qingdao.
The new coating facility will focus on the production of architectural and automotive window films for safety and security, glare reduction and energy saving for the Asian market. With a network of more than 1,800 Quantum and Solar Gard outlets in China, Saint-Gobain Solar Gard reckons to be the fastest-growing window film brand in the country.
Saint Gobain now has a stronger presence in China, with the new plant adding to its existing factory in Nanjing and a processing facility in Shanghai. Saint Gobain’s Qingdao plant will gradually increase production until 2014, when it will produce glass to equip 1.5 million vehicles a year.
The new factory will double Saint Gobain’s automotive glass production in China. Saint-Gobain Solar Gard is a global leader in the development, manufacturing and distribution of specialty films and backsheet materials.
Saint Gobain opens new plant in China
French glass products maker Saint Gobain has opened a new plant in Qingdao, a city in China’s Shandong province, via its Saint-Gobain Solar Gard subsidiary.
