Everyone has heard the old expression, “what happens in Las Vegas, stays in Las Vegas…” Well, here is an exception.

We are pleased to announce that SageGlass® came away with a “Best in Show” award at the GlassBuild America conference in Las Vegas last week.  We earned the top spot in the “Innovative Products Pavilion” category – which, as you might guess, had some tough competition from several very innovative glazing and construction products. The SAGE team was very excited to win this award and even more excited about the great attendance and interest in SageGlass from the show attendees.

GlassBuild America was hosted by the National Glass Association (NGA) and Window and Door Dealers Alliance (WDDA) and is officially called “The Glass, Window and Door Expo.” In fact, the show is actually sponsored by a host of industry associations – NGA, WDDA, GANA, AAMA, IGMA, BEMA – but space limitations preclude me from writing the name of each member’s name in longhand.

Per the NGA, this year’s show featured 375 exhibitors – which made the Best in Show honor even more meaningful. Most importantly, attendance at the show was outstanding. Over 7,200 patrons were in attendance, the highest attendance level in six years. As we all know, the construction industry is cyclical and can be prone to its ups and downs. The prevailing mood at the show this year was overwhelmingly positive for the industry and organic growth appears to be strong in virtually all sectors of construction – commercial, governmental, and residential. This is great news for all of us.

Despite the industry cycles, innovative products that meet real customer needs usually find a way to break through in any economic cycle. A product like SageGlass – dynamic glass that “tints on demand” – helps control heat and glare, can reduce energy usage, and enables occupants to enjoy a view from their window without ever having to pull down blinds or shades. How “cool” is that?

SageGlass manages the sunlight and heat that enter a building, significantly reducing energy consumption while improving people’s comfort and well-being. SageGlass helps reduce energy consumption in a building by 20% and HVAC requirements up to 30%.  Further, because the shading is essentially built right into the glass itself, it virtually eliminates the carbon-based byproducts (aluminum, metal, cloth, etc.) that are inherent in conventional solar control devices. The bottomline: SageGlass can enhance occupant comfort while contributing to the continuing desire for sustainable “green” building solutions.

P.S. Just in case you are wondering, there were also a few moments from GlassBuild America in Las Vegas that are better left unsaid.  Viva Las Vegas…
