At a ceremony in Paris, the French Minister of Environment, Yves Cochet, presented to Rohm and Haas Lauterbourg the “Entreprises & Environnement” first Prize award in the field of eco management.

The “Enterprises & Environnement” national environmental awards are organised by the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry to recognise successful industry work in the area of eco management and eco products. This first Prize to Lauterbourg rewarded the integration of quality, safety and environment in the site management. All our production units obtained the ISO 9002 and ISO 14001 certification, respectively in 1992 and 1999. The site moreover implemented an innovative policy based on employee involvement and developed numerous measures aiming at pollution and release reduction and at continuous improvement of our environmental performance.

The exemplary measures for environmental impact reduction include among others the installation of a thermal oxidizer at the waste water treatment station and an improvement program for existing installations to protect the underground water. The installation of the thermal oxidizer reduced the site's second odor source linked to sludge drying at the water treatment station. The decennial program for underground water protection included the construction of retention pits at the raw material unloading stations, as well as the installation of a double retention on the waste water pits. Strongly supported by our management, these measures were accompanied by regular exchanges with employees to improve their awareness and by the release of the external community newsletter “Rive Rhin”.

This award recognizes and rewards the actions taken for many years by all employees of the Lauterbourg site.
