Recent glass company closings in western Pennsylvania

Houze Glass closed its Point Marion, Fayette County, facility on Wednesday, leaving 57 people without jobs. For 102 years the company made glassware and later ceramic mugs and plastic goods.Glenshaw Glass Co. closed its Allegheny County plant on Nov. 22, leaving about 300 people jobless.

For 109 years, the company made glass bottles, including beer bottles for Pittsburgh Brewing Co. and Yuengling Brewery.

Anchor Glass Container Corp., the nation's third-largest bottler, shuttered its South Connellsville, Fayette County, plant on Nov. 4, leaving approximately 300 employees without jobs.

Lenox Crystal closed its Mount Pleasant, Westmoreland County, plant on Jan. 31, 2002, leaving 158 people without jobs. The plant manufactured crystal stemware and gift items under the Lenox and Gorham brands.
